life event of "Phoebe"
My life event : Graduation from University
I had conflicting feelings towards my graduation from university. During my school life in university, I had so much fun and felt excited by participating in different programs, such as overseas exchange to Ireland, Italy and Taiwan for studies and going to Cambodia to do voluntary work for Aids Children.
Studying in University is full of joy and laughter. You can explore different knowledge with freedom and it was so fun to have discussion with teachers. I love my 3 years studies in Social Work very much. Time when I needed to graduate, I missed a lot of things I have experienced.
However, the graduation was the time to go to another page of life:
To develop and shine the spirit of being a social worker!
To improve the quality of life of people and to develop people’s potentials!
To advocate and to achieve social justice!
Shanya, 10 years old, she was living in Cambodia Rubbish Hill and everyday she and her brother needed to climb up to the “rubbish mountain” to collect 20kg of plastic for selling in order to sustain her family expenses.
Nuch is a very adorable “baby”. She unfortunately got Aids transmitted from her infected mother. Her parents died and she was sent to the Rainbow Bridge (an orphange house for Aids Children) by her neighbours living in Rubbish Hill. She loved to stay and carried by me all the time. When I left, she cried very sadly and loudly. Although it was heartbroken, I believe I will visit her again soon.
My grandmother had a serious lung disease during my Year 1 studies. It was so serious that the doctor told us she had only got a few months to go. We both had a same wish to take my graduation picture together!
I made prayers to God and shared my wish with my grandma as well.
Most of my relatives and friends knew, my grandmother was a very tough women and she loved me a lot. During that time, she tried her best to learn breathing again to control her disease from getting worse. At the end, we did it!
From several months of survival to a 3 years survival, my grandmother has shown me that we should live with perseverance without fear. Positive thinking could breakthrough challenges.
