My most recent life event that I am proud of is completing “The Marathon 2010”.
I remember clearly the time I had peered through my window and seeing people running on the streets below my building. I was fascinated by the sight of hundreds of runners on the street.
It was my first year in Hong Kong. I was very young and had never run except once a year during the sports days in my school.
I made a vow to join the marathon. I would cut out the newspaper clipping of the marathon winners and keep it as a reminder for myself to achieve the goal.
As a beginner, the hardest thing for me was to wake up early in the morning. I love my beauty sleep. I asked my parents for help to try to wake me up at any cost. I would make 5 rounds in the park for a month and increase by 1 or 2 round every month. But I never did fewer rounds. I would always stick to my plan.
Still, it took 3 years to complete 5 kilometers. I still had half more to go. Then finally I said it was enough and signed up for the marathon, even though I wasn’t completely ready.
Then I started to feel the pressure to complete the whole 10km run at any cost. Since I had already paid the fees, there was no going back. I changed from 2 times a week run to 5 times a week. I had 5 months to go before the D-day (2010 marathon). I also had to make sure I finished it on time. Everyday I pushed myself very hard to do running.
On that day, I woke up very early to go to the starting point and 30,000 people were at their best mood. The moment itself was very lively, even at 5 am in the morning. Then my journey began. Even though I was tired after completing the whole race, I felt relived and very happy. I proved myself that I could do anything.
